Creative Space

Practical courses for those who want to be creative but aren’t sure where to begin. Learn how to draw, paint and create collages in a friendly and supportive environment. Led by Katie Sollohub. Drawing for the Terrified Weds 5 April, 10.30am–4.30pm Using charcoal, graphite, pen and pencil, you will be encouraged to experiment and make marks with no subject in mind. Learn exercises to help you relax and worry less about the outcomes as you move on to simple subject matters and are inspired to keep drawing at home. Creative Collage Weds 24 May, 10.30am–4.30pm Working from a simple still life or imagery you find in the Gallery you will cut and tear shapes in coloured paper, draw simple lines with felt tips, crayons and pastels and learn how to notice spaces. Arrange your collage back in the Studio, where the creative fun really begins. Creative Collage: Inspired by the Figure Weds 21 June, 10.30am–4.30pm Using a model for inspiration, you will cut and tear shapes, scribble, capture lines of rhythm and movement, and compose a series of quick studies from the figure. Expressive/Experimental Drawing from Still Life Weds 20 Sept, 10.30am–4.30pm Prepare to get messy and play with charcoal, ink and other drawing materials. Work freely and create an expressive response to a still life without worrying about accuracy. Anything goes, including lots of rubbing out, drawing over the top, and even ripping up! Introduction to Paint: Painting Black and White Weds 11 Oct, 10.30am–4.30pm Using only black and white paint is an excellent way to really understand how paint feels and moves. Using acrylics and painting mediums for mixing and glazing, make abstract marks before moving on to a simple subject matter.
