The Charles Kearley Bequest
Tues 28 March, 11am–1.30pm
Charles Kearley, a property developer, had a budget of £700 a year to build his collection. With advice from art critic R H Wilenski, he bought works by Modern British and continental artists such as Paul Cézanne and Gino Severini. His collection was gifted to the Gallery through The Art Fund in 1989. Led by Beth Funnell and Michaela Cranmer.
From Sickert to the Pop Artists: Colin St John Wilson's Gift
and the Architecture of the New Wing
Tues 4 April, 11am–1.30pm
The architect Prof. Sir Colin St John Wilson not only gave his collection of British Pop Art and figurative art to the Gallery, but also designed (in association with Long & Kentish) the Gallery's contemporary wing in order to house it. Led by Sarah Bunting.
St Ives and British Modernism: The George and Ann Dannatt Gift and the on-going Golder-Thompson Gift and Contemporary Prints
Tues 11 April, 11am–1.30pm
Both of these gifts fill a number of gaps in the Gallery's collections. The George and Ann Dannatt Gift of Modern British art includes post-war abstract art, while the Golder-Thompson Gift allows the Gallery to acquire contemporary prints on an ongoing basis. Led by Diana Wooldridge and Michaela Cranmer.
