Takeover Day 2016

Time and Tide will work with local young people who have English as a second language. We will work in partnership with GYROS who support newcomers and migrant communities in the Great Yarmouth area. A group of ten young people will work together over a six week period to research and create a pop up exhibition and museum trail. Each participant will bring an object which belongs to a family member and which says something about their family heritage. They’ll work with museum professionals and translators to interpret their objects both in English and their first language. The group will also work with an artist to design a trail and exhibition panel. They’ll help to prepare a press release and social media and finally on November 18th the group will host a celebratory launch for families and friends. We hope that the project will help us to understand how to use interpretation and contemporary collecting to represent the culturally diverse communities of Great Yarmouth.
