In Sight: Normans

A weekend of live performances and combat demonstrations marking the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings (14 October 1066) Events throughout the weekend will include: Object-handling sessions An opportunity to examine and handle collection objects from the Norman period. Arming the Norman Knight Learn about the development of Norman body armour and weaponry as one of our warriors is armed head to foot in preparation for battle. Saxon v Norman Combat Saxon and Norman arms, armour and tactics are put to the test in this combat demonstration. Hastings 1066 Listen to an account of the hard-fought battle between the Normans and Saxons that changed the course of English history. Castles and Sieges An audio-visual presentation on the techniques used to attack and defend castles through the ages. Bayeux Tapestry Members of the Stamford Bridge Society will display examples of their tapestry work and inform visitors about the techniques and materials used in the making of the original Bayeux Tapestry.
