Locos in a Different Light

The National Railway Museum opens its doors to visitors for a chance to see some of Britain’s most iconic trains in a whole new and different light this October, as part of ‘Illuminating York’. The museum, whose collection is second to none and includes the world-famous Mallard and Flying Scotsman, will be transformed with its 'Locos in a Different Light' exhibition. The event will see the museum’s imposing Great Hall plunged into darkness, bathing its fantastic engines with amazing colour and light displays, offering visitors a new perspective on the rich rail history housed at the museum. Centre stage is a specially commissioned art installation, ‘Travelling Light’, by pioneers of large-scale illuminated art, Heinrich and Palmer, whose creative vision will transform the workshop area of the museum. The internationally- renowned duo’s installation will provide visitors with an experience that brings together projection, light drawings, film and sound in the working heart of the museum, where trains, including Flying Scotsman and Mallard, are maintained and restored. The free event runs every evening from 6pm until 10pm from 26–29 October as part of the city-wide Illuminating York festival, which is celebrating its eleventh anniversary this year, making this the perfect way to spend your half term holiday! Parking and admission to the event is free and there is no need to book. The main National Railway
