Army Wives

Explore the changing image of the army wife over time, as Author Midge Gillies talks about her new book, 'Army Wives: From Crimea to Afghanistan: the Real Lives of the Women Behind the Men in Uniform'. Using first hand accounts, letters and diaries to tell their stories, Midge examines how army wives have coped with frequent moves, painful separations and the pleasures and challenges of beingpart of the “army family”. And what happens after the army, when that support is gone. There will be a book sale and signing follow the talk. Midge Gillies has written seven books including a biography of the pilot Amy Johnson. She studied History at Cambridge University and is Academic Director of Creative Writing at the University’s Institute of Continuing Education.
