BHS Harpsichord Duets

Dan Tidhar and Francis Knights, Britain’s most active harpsichord duo, present a programme contrasting canonic works by Bach with two modern pieces. Bach’s canonic explorations date from the end of his career, and combine rigorous counterpoint with a lyrical, playful imagination. Also included are transcriptions of concerto and organ works for four hands and two keyboards, including the monumental Passacaglia in C minor. The two modern pieces, by Stephen Dodgson (1924-2013) and Joanna Marsh, date from nearly half-a-century apart, but both are portrayals, one of bells and the other of a duel – an idea well suited to the duet format.
