The programme includes Sonatas for solo cello and basso continuo which show development and varieties throughout Italian cello schools. Five composers we have chosen are:
A pioneer of Bologna cello school, Gabrielli
A unique Cardinal Passionei who was also a composer and a cellist
A Turin born virtuoso cellist Lanzetti who worked in London and played for Handel
A star cellist of the Neapolitan school, Supriani who established new standards in cello technique
And of course, the red priest Vivaldi!
