Victorian Miners Gala Day

Join us this Festival of Museums weekend at Prestongrange Museum for a special gala day to mark the opening of the Museum’s Cornish Beam Pumping Engine. This Victorian marvel brought a golden age of better working conditions and higher productivity to Prestongrange. Join the engineers for a well-earned rest and a chance to embrace the holiday atmosphere in this fun packed gala day including afternoon tea and fairground inspired treats. Dalkeith and Monktonhall Brass Band will play three half hour concerts in front of the iconic pithead baths. Enjoy choral performances of Victorian and well known songs from local singers. Storytellers will create intrigue and will bring a cabinet of curiosities for the brave to peer into! There’ll be special tours of the beam engine and a puppeteer will deliver Punch and Judy Shows.
