Handel by Candle

Cathy Bell (mezzo-soprano), will deliver a lecture-recital that explores light in the 18th century. Going to the opera, a night-time activity, involved candles to light not only the stage and the auditorium but also the journey to and from the opera house. Cathy will sing examples from a selection of Handel operas with George Ross (cello) and Marie van Rhijn (harpsichord) to illuminate this forgotten experience.
