Throughout history, medical men and women have often found themselves at the forefront of exploration. During the First World War, doctors and nurses were sent to the battlefield with little knowledge of what might be in store for them. Even closer to home, chaotic conditions in military hospitals were a world away from medicine in peacetime. In this presentation we will use Edinburgh medical archives to uncover some dramatic and brave adventures which helped shape the modern world of medical treatment.
