Organised to welcome and celebrate the three exquisite pen and ink drawings by Bidefordian Bertram Prance, purchased and gifted to The Burton by the Friends of the Burton. This exhibition draws together the 9 works from the Estate of Bertram Prance and the newly accessioned drawings. Prance’s humorous drawings were always sought after by The Tatler, The Humourist and Passing Show. But it was his drawings published in “Punch” which established and assured his career. As fashions changed after the 2nd World War he became in demand as a book illustrator, particularly in advertising, but he was also a brilliant painter, a favourite subject being the sky and landscapes of North Devon.
