PERFORMANCES ON SUNDAY 5, SATURDAY 11, SUNDAY 12, SATURDAY 18 & SUNDAY 19 JUNE AT 12 NOON AND 3PM (DURATION: 45 MINUTES)
The Ulster Museum in collaboration with Kabosh Theatre Company and the Nerve Centre, is delighted to bring to life the incredible archive of Olive Swanzy from Newry.
Serving as a nurse during the First World War, Olive kept a book of autographs that documented her time and those she encountered. For years these books lay forgotten in storage, kept in attics and at the bottom of boxes. When they were finally examined their secrets were revealed. Within their covers were poems, jokes, cartoons and sketches by wounded soldiers in Olive’s care. Alongside her beautiful paintings these books tell a fascinating story of very real people during extraordinary times.
In a multi-art form production, watch as The Box comes to life and tells the story of the men and women who placed their thoughts, hopes and dreams in the care of Olive’s autograph books.
