A Woman of Genius

"A woman of genius does not exist; if she does, she must be a man!" Using works from the 16th century onwards from the Museum's collections, alongside original artwork by Vicki Cooke, this exhibition is about the female artists who have quietly proved the author of the above quote wrong. Vicki’s artworks comprise four series, exploring different themes around the disappearance of women from the artistic record. Art created by women from the Museum’s collections not normally on show will also be displayed, including work by Jane Day, Margaret Hazlitt, Eliza Goodwin Green, Harriet Todd, Patty Townsend-Johnson, Helen Allingham and Kate Goodwin.
