From Devon to Dujailah

8th March 1916 was the worst day of the first World War for North Devon - 49 officers and men of the 6th battalion the Devonshire Regiment were killed at the Battle of Dujailah on this day. Sergeant V.C.Boyle was serving in the reserve Battalion and his watercolours and sketches follow the progress of the 2nd/6th as they moved from Bombay to Basra to Kut to support their fellow Devonians. His impressions of the landscapes, people and activities of India and Mesopotamia are a remarkable survival.
