The British Labour Movement and Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising

Ireland’s Easter Rising occurred almost exactly one hundred years ago. This was to change the course of Irish/British history irrevocably. Join authors of recent books on the subject to discuss the rebellion. Geoffrey Bell will explore how the British labour movement reacted to the Rising and its aftermath. Robin Stocks will tell the stories of the Manchester Volunteers, the ‘hidden heroes of Easter Week’. Using eye witness accounts, Stocks shows how the Rising grew out of labour unrest as well an upsurge in national feeling. Signed copies of both books will be available to purchase at the event.
