Faith Belief and Spirituality in Modern Art: Apocalypse Postponed

Lecture Theatre 1.30-3pm £3, pay at the door. Far from being a godless age, the 20th and 21st centuries have seen the genesis of some memorable religious images, often produced by celebrated artists. If you add to this all the works which spring from general or new kinds of spirituality, you have a very broad range of works indeed. This lecture by Adrian Sumner examines the wealth of formal or ‘official’ religious art, but also uncovers Existentialists, Spiritualists, Theosophists, Rosicrucians, New Apocalyptics, Jedi and the Golden Dawn. Full of surprises, full of spirit, and full of hope, this lecture is for all those who believe in Art.
