Aimed at all History A Level specifications, this interactive study day explores how the cinematic depiction of the Holocaust can enhance our understanding of history. The event will show how the Nazis manipulated material culture for propaganda purposes, and how this affected the persecuted groups, and also the Hitler youth. Using a wide range of clips from feature film and documentary, we shall consider how film depicts the complex choices made by those living under the Nazi regime; how identity is forged, and the role of propaganda in shaping opinion. Throughout, students will be encouraged to critically consider what constitutes historical truth.
In the afternoon there will be an introduced screening of a suitable feature film followed by Q&A.
