Christmas in the Home

Witness some festive domestic bliss in the Museum’s ‘Christmas in the Home’ seasonal activities. The period houses and cottages will each be running their own activities and demonstrations, taking visitors back to the sights, sounds and smells of a magical Christmas past for their Christmas in the Home weekends. Step inside period cottages and houses and help costumed characters create a host of fabulous festive recipes from the one and only Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management. All the family can get involved to help stir the sixpence into the Christmas pudding in the Museum’s historic kitchens. Head on over to the Canalside Village where you’ll find mince pies being made in the back to backs as well as gingerbread men being made over a 1920s cast iron range. There will be plenty of traditional activities to get hands on with too. Why not help out the costumed characters with some ‘make do and mend’ Christmas decorations? Or you could craft and take away your very own spiced orange pomander to fill your home with the traditional smells of Christmas.
