The Challenge of Ambivalence: Antisemitism in Germany Today

This lecture is part of the Wiener Library lecture series 'The New Jewish Question? The Holocaust, Israel, Antisemitism' and will be given by Professor Stefanie Schüler-Springorum. As the Director of the Center for Antisemitism Research in Berlin, Schüler-Springorum has a keen insight into present forms of antisemitism in Germany. Her lecture will look in particular at the different ways that antisemitism is measured, as well as the specific issues and debates that have arisen in a contemporary German context. Finally it will also consider the way that the subject is discussed and handled in the German public sphere. In addition to her role at the Centre for Antisemitism Research in Berlin, Schüler-Springorum has been the Chairman of the Academic Work Group of the Leo Baeck Institute since 2001. Her specialist research areas include German-Jewish history, gender and family history as well as scholarly biography. She is also co-editor of the journal “Werkstatt und Geschichte".
