Cavell, Carbolic and Chloroform

Costumed re-enactors bring this theatrical tour to life as the process by which wounded men were treated during the Great War unfolds around you. At the start of the tour you will be given a service book for a named soldier before being taken to “the trenches”. There you will learn about life on the front before being “wounded” and taken on your tour around the Museum through various stages of treatment for injured servicemen: you will be sent to the casualty clearing station and the field hospital, then back to England for an operation. In the recovery area you will finally learn the fate of your serviceman and how he fared after his treatment. You will also meet “Edith Cavell” and find out the real story behind this remarkable lady. The tour experience lasts about 50 minutes. It is not recommended for children under 8 or those of a nervous disposition.
