Halloween Eve Dumb Supper

The traditional ‘Dumb Supper’ is an ancient custom used to honour the dead. Participants at this special, limited event will partake of a small three course meal without talking, with only the sound of a live jazz quartet accompaniment for around 45 minutes. The meal's courses are also eaten backwards, beginning with dessert first in an inversion of the 'living' meal ritual. This unusual event will begin with a short introductory lecture about the Dumb Supper and the rationale behind honouring the dead at this time (Halloween or 'Samhain') and in this location (Barts Pathology Museum). The courses will be consumed in silence but there will be some time for mingling, music and more just before and afterwards. Come dressed as smart as you like, although it's not black tie!
