Remembering the West Indian contribution to the First World War. Dr Richard Smith

The contribution of West Indian soldiers in the First World War is often presented as ‘untold’ or ‘forgotten’. As the centenary of the formation of the British West Indies Regiment approaches, this talk will outline the diversity of its wartime role before considering how memories of the West Indian contribution have subsequently been present at key moments. Smith is a writer and senior lecturer at Birkbeck College in the Department of Media and Communications.
