Munitions and Matrons

An exhibition examining the contribution that the Heathcoat Factory made to the war effort during the First World War. From 1915 the factory produced shell cases and components for very early gas masks. The exhibition explores the relationships between the factory and the town, the VAD hospital and the Heathcoat Amory family, as well as some of the stories of the people who worked there. Knightshayes At War, The Museum and Knightshayes Court have been working together to produce related exhibitions. Knightshayes became a VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) hospital in 1915. 'Knightshayes At War' is a special exhibition looking at the history of the hospital which will be on from 1st August to 15th November.
