A journey from London to Constantinople: a Victorian lantern slide performance with music

Lecture by Dr Sally Crawford, Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Archaeology, Oxford and Dr Katharina Ulmschneider, Senior Research Fellow, Worcester College, Oxford. In late Victorian England lantern slide performances were a popular entertainment, opening up the world of art, architecture, history, education and travel. In this performance, based on original late 19th century magic lantern slide lecture series, we recreate a sense of the original excitement and wonder experienced by the first audiences for projected photographic images, taking you on a trip through the past, from London to Constantinople – with live musical accompaniment!
