The Royal Armouries will be marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo with a weekend of Napoleonic wargaming!
Napoleonic participation and demonstration games will be taking place throughout the weekend, including an impressive 6mm “refight” of the battle of Waterloo itself in its entirety.
Throughout the weekend all visitors are welcome to join in games and take part in the day for free, and everyone from long-time enthusiasts to curious beginners will be able to get involved. Plus, painting advice will be available if you want to brush up on your skills.
Royal Armouries experts on the arms and armour of the Napoleonic period will be available to answer questions, and visitors will be able to handle real period objects from our collection to get up close and personal with the weapons of these wars.
Our world famous Siborne model, which depicts the epic battle of Waterloo at around 1:30pm in impressive detail, will have been conserved to its spectacular original state which means that you will have a great opportunity to see and be inspired by this stunning artefact.
A must see for all visitors will be the Royal Armouries ‘Art of Battle’ temporary exhibition, which marries a stunning collection of objects from the battle of Waterloo with iconic art pieces – including the Royal Academy’s newly conserved and monumental Maclise ‘Cartoon’ of the meeting of the Duke of Wellington and General Blűcher after the battle of Waterloo and ‘Scotland for Ever!’ by Lady Elizabeth Butler, on loan from Leeds City Art Gallery.
Participation in the event is entirely FREE.
