The Carlisle Historical Pageants

This temporary exhibition will explore the Carlisle historic pageants of 1928, 1951 and 1977. Each Pageant will carefully analysed to examine themes of people, community and civic identity. A diverse range of Pageant costume, film footage, imagery and ephemera will be displayed in the exhibition. Oral testimonies of Carlisle pageant participants will also be available to listen to many individuals unique experiences. The exhibition is part of a much large British Universities AHRC research project titled The Redress of the Past: Historical Pageants in Britain, 1905-2016. Several Russell Group Universities including Kings College London, Glasgow University and Edinburgh University are working in partnership with Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery on the project.
