David Kirkaldy's Testing and Experimenting Machine set international standards in testing materials during the industrial revolution. This talk explores the huge hydraulically powered machine that he built at No 99 Southwark Street. Discover how the Kirkaldy Testing Museum preserves Kirkaldy's Universal Testing Machine so that it can inspire future generations of scientists and artists to continue enquiring into the properties of the materials that we use to build our world.
