Doríon - Dodda Maggý

VIDEO- & MUSIC PERFORMANCE BY DODDA MAGGÝ WITH THE KATLA WOMEN´S CHOIR

Friday 15 May, 9 pm.

Saturday 16 May, 4 pm.

The performance runs for 40 min.

Video and music performance Dorion by Dodda Maggý is written specifically for the Church of Kópavogur and commissioned by Gerðarsafn – Kópavogur Art Museum for the exhibition Illumination (15 May – 2 August) at the 2015 Reykjavik Arts Festival. The work is performed in collaboration with Katla Women's Choir led by Hildigunnur Einarsdóttir and Lilja Dögg Gunnarsdóttir and was inspired by the forms and colours of the stained glass windows by artist Gerður Helgadóttir (1928 – 1975) as well as the characteristic curved lines of the church's architecture. Dodda Maggý's video piece visualizes the voice range with the colour palette of the musical scale filling the church in a visual dialogue with Gerður's window installation.

Dodda Maggý (b.1981) completed her MFA degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2009. Alongside her MFA studies she also pursued studies in Nordic Sound Art (a two-year collaboration MFA programme organised by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Malmö Art Academy, Oslo National Academy of the Arts and Trondheim Academy of Fine Art), in which she focussed specifically on the connection between music and visual art.
