Art and Existence: Margins to Mainstream

Examine a variety of interpretations of ‘Black British Theatre’ as a ‘brand’ and ‘style’ of theatre performance and discover the contribution of black actors, producers and playwrights to the UK theatre tradition. Accompanying this talk will be a screening of the Heritage Lottery funded film Margins to Mainstream: The story of Black Theatre in Britain produced by the Octavia Foundation and Nu Century Arts, which features previously unseen footage of seminal plays, fascinating interviews with theatre heavyweights, telling the story of a dynamic art form.
