The Cementation Furnace is a Grade II listing building and is the only example of this type of steel making furnace to survive undamaged in Britain. It was built in 1848 by the local steel firm, Daniel Doncasters & Sons. This furnace operated throughout the Second World War and ceased operation in 1951.
