WW1 Antiques Valuation Day

Over six million British men fought in the First World War, meaning that few of us living in Britain today are untouched by the events of a hundred years ago. In attics, cupboards and family albums, many of us still have important mementos reminding us of the role our ancestors played in the Great War. Do you want to know more about your family’s treasured First World War memorabilia? Do you have an object with an interesting story relating to your family’s connection to the period? Maybe your ancestors didn’t fight on the frontline, but undertook some of the many interesting and vital tasks on the home front. The Powell-Cotton Museum wants to know your First World War stories. As part of a series of events and exhibitions to mark the centenary of the First World War, bring along your objects and memories and meet our experts from The Canterbury Auction Galleries, Tony Pratt and Dave Parker to learn more about these precious clues to the past and whether or not they are valuable antiques, as well as treasured family pieces. The Powell-Cotton Museum would like to run a community exhibition in late 2015, showcasing some of the amazing stories and objects relating to Thanet’s First World War history. If you’d like your object/s and family stories to feature, make sure you attend! We’ll be collecting information on the day from participants. Who knows – your family story could be at the heart of the next Powell-Cotton Museum exhibition!
