Schools Experience Shakespeare’s World and Works

The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum is inviting KS2 and KS3 schools groups to visit the Museum and be inspired by Shakespeare’s stories from Monday 16 to Thursday 19 March 2015. The Museum’s Schools team, led by Schools Services Manager Lucy Hockley, is taking bookings for this exciting day for school groups during Shakespeare Week, which the Museum is running in partnership with Chichester Festival Theatre. During the day, KS2 and KS3 pupils will experience a variety of activities including: • Drama warm up activities • Examining one of Shakespeare’s plays, Macbeth, led by young practitioners and the learning team from Chichester Festival Theatre • Exploring the Museum’s homes and buildings, led by the Museum’s team • Thinking about everyday life in Shakespeare’s time – what would he have experienced? Each day will conclude with a shared performance of a piece from Macbeth, which the group will perform for one another. Children attending the event will work towards the Arts Award ‘Discover’ level during the day. The day will create many opportunities for follow-on work at school as there will be a focus on core skills. The cost per pupil for the day (Museum entry and workshops) is £7. The maximum group size for this activity on any day will be limited to 70 pupils, so please contact the Museum on 01243 811459 to secure places for your school. So that everyone can participate, on Saturday 21st March the Museum will offer informal activities for families around the site, which relate to Shakespeare’s England.
