De Profundis: from the Depths

This exhibition explores the cycle of depression from chaos through to acceptance, followed by hope. These themes are represented by a series of images and installations that the guide you through a range of emotions. Pete Regan is a photographer and film maker. In his early twenties he was diagnosed with cyclothymia, widely considered to be a milder form of bipolar disorder. He describes this as a dark point in his life, spending months in bed and feeling isolated. But the gift of a camera transformed his life. In this exhibition Pete takes you on a personal journey that illustrates how photography and the arts gave him a new found purpose and direction. On show are a series of images from different points of his life but all with the common theme of atmosphere. Pete also looks at the cycle of our ever-changing moods and invites you to interpret your own journey and the fluidity of life. Pete works for an arts for health scheme and every day he sees how the arts have the capacity to improve people’s lives. He believes the arts have the ability to transform, comfort and even heal.
