Dr Matthew Nicholls of Reading University has built a huge, detailed digital model of ancient Rome, reconstructing the city as it appeared around AD315. Using the latest digital technology in combination with archaeological and literary source material, the model contains thousands of buildings from the grandest monuments to everyday housing, docks, and warehouses. Join Dr Nicholls to explore the world and buildings of ancient Rome and discover how he researched and built the model. This lecture will include some spectacular visuals.
Matthew Nicholls is Associate Professor of ancient history at the University of Reading, where he runs the City of Rome MA. He recently won the 2014 Guardian’s Higher Education Award for teaching excellence.
