Members of the Ordered Universe Research team, based at Durham University and Oxford University, lead a series of sessions which follow the creative imagination of Robert Grosseteste, Bishop of Lincoln (1235-1253), and his investigations into the natural world.
Three sessions will move from medieval manuscripts, to reading through some of his works in translation, thinking about experiments, and re-creating a few. The day finishes with the premier of a computer-generated visualisation of Grosseteste’s treatise on light, including the medieval ‘big bang’. The day will be chaired by well-known science journalist Michael Brooks.
