This project would suit one class of up to 30 pupils, aged 11-14, to take over our members’ preview evening for the Christmas displays at the Museum. The young people would need to be at the museum from about 2pm until the end of the preview night (8pm). Provisional schedule would be as follows
- Arrive after lunch (2pm approx.)
- Briefing
- Half the class with the Collections Manager: Installing kids’ trail in the period room displays, photographing locations of clues and making guide for volunteers
- Half the class with Head of Learning: Roving Reporters ‘behind the scenes’- tweet, facebook and make short Vine videos about their day at the Museum. Could include interviews with each other, staff etc. and be compiled into a blog.
- 30 min break
- Visitor services training- greeting visitors, health and safety, difficult questions, etc.
- 30 min break
- Members’ Preview: 2 young people in every room, with one Museum volunteer guide on each floor in case of emergency
2 young people with clipboard to greet guests
Rotating ‘tea break’ young people to allow others to go for a break
Some young people to interview members about what they like most about the displays- for promotional/ fundraising use (If there is a suitable group of young people from the school they might be able to provide music for the evening.)
