This November, be transported to 18th-century London as the National Maritime Museum celebrates their Ships, Clocks & Stars: The Quest for Longitude exhibition and the world of the gregarious Georgians with an exciting evening of themed events. Taking place throughout the museum on Thursday 13 November, guests to the late can expect live music, wig-making and will even be able to take their own #GeorgianSelfie.
Co-curated with Longitude Punk’d artist, Yomi “The Alchemist” Ayeni, the museum has created an evening that jumps head-first into Georgian London. Join Matt Brown, editor of the Londonist, for a quiz-based tour of the 18th-century capital, watch our ‘Curators on the gangplank’ as they attempt to beat the clock, or even make your own tri-cornered hat with a real Steampunk seamstress.
Experience live Georgian entertainment in the forms of both music and theatre from band The Frolick, and interactive piece ‘The Tinku Diaries’ from Clockwork Watch which is told through live events, graphic novels, online and film. Take this opportunity to look to the stars as we examine the longitude story in the modern age of ‘satnav’ and reflect on the exciting life of astronomer, Miss Caroline Herschel, for the book launch of poet Kelley Swain’s Double the Stars. Finally, finish the evening off in truly Georgian style by socialising with a well-earned stiff drink.
