Preserving Memories: Medals and Plaques

Objects can play an important part in remembering people. Medals especially, are important in keeping alive the memory of those who served during the First World War. If you have any medals or plaques and would like to know how to take best care of them, please bring them along to this workshop. To start with, Assistant Curator Marleen Vincenten will tell you a bit more about the history and meaning of medals. This part will be mainly focused on the Great War, but you are welcome to ask questions about other medals as well. After this introduction, Conservator Rachael Metcalfe will show you how to clean and take care of your medals at a museum standard. During and after the cleaning, there will be time to discuss the personal story behind your medals.
