Special Service - Celebration of the Life of Bishop Alfred Tucker
Preacher: The Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend John Sentamu
Choral Evensong and Procession to celebrate the life of a former Bishop of Uganda and Canon of Durham Cathedral. Bishop Alfred was consecrated the first ever Bishop of Uganda in 1899, building churches, hospitals, schools and the Bishop Tucker Theological College which continues to educate ordinands today. He retired to Durham in 1910 and is buried in the Cathedral Church Yard.
