The First World War produced many poignant examples of writing, from poems written by soldiers to letters to and from the front line. Creative Writer Rachel Cochrane will work with participants in these three sessions to explore and reflect through examples of creative writing, providing inspiration to create their own pieces of work in their chosen format.
Each of the museum venues involved has its own unique exhibition about the First World War, covering themes such as industrial heritage, life on the home front, local heroes, and the role of women in war time. The writing workshops will include a tour of the exhibitions from expert curators, and the chance to use the museum’s First World War handling object collection as inspiration for writing, which includes items such as letters, maps, photographs and medals.
