STUDY DAY: Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll: Homes and Gardens

STUDY DAY: The names of Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll are synonymous with the creation of quintessentially English country homes and gardens. Together they designed some of Britain’s most romantic and beautiful country homes, including Munstead Wood, the Deanery, Hestercombe, and Upton Gray. Lutyens designed the buildings in his vernacular Arts and Crafts style, and Jekyll provided the planting schemes with herbaceous borders and radiant colours that resembled the brush-strokes of paintings. This day, led by Justine Hopkins and Gavin Stamp, considers the careers of both Lutyens and Jeckyll, and focuses particularly upon their inspired collaborations.
