An Evening Lecture by Bob Clarke, followed by Q and A.
2014 sees the United Kingdom marking the outbreak of World War One, naturally all eyes fall towards the battlefields of the Western Front. However, on the 16 December 1914 the German High Seas Fleet shelled three east coast towns killing near 200 and injuring 600.
This largely forgotten action was soon surpassed by the horrors of trench warfare, at the time it caused national outrage.
Bob Clarke is an archaeologist whose research has covered prehistory and the Cold War.
