Musician
Benjamin Bruant (guitar)
Description
Handel, Scarlatti and Bach were born in the same year 1685. Together they represent the music of their generation. Their music, similar in style, bring musical traditions from Germany,England, Italy, Spain and Portugal. This recital will take you across Europe at the beginning of the eighteenth century.
The guitar is not the first instrument that comes to mind when we think of baroque music. Indeed, the pieces programmed have been composed before the appearance of the guitar. However during the baroque period transcribing was common practise. Originally written for violin, the prelude of the suite BWV 1006 was transcribed by Bach himself for lute as well as for organ, oboe, trumpets and strings. By using transcriptions, today’s guitarists have been developing a very rich baroque repertoire. With its wide possibilities of colours and timbres, the guitar reveals all the beauty of this repertoire.
