Festival of Archaeology 2014: Ice Sunday at London Canal Museum

A special day of activities relating to the industrial archaeology of the ice trade that supplied ice to London from Norway in the 19th century. On this day, visitors will be able to climb down into the two ice wells that are uniquely preserved beneath the museum building (fitness and age restrictions apply, age 11 and over only, you must wear sensible footwear and be fit enough to climb ladders). A guide will explain the history of the wells. There will also be demonstrations of making ice cream the Victorian way using a replica of Mrs A.B. Marshall's patent ice cream maker - Mrs M. will be portrayed in costume by our demonstration team! We will also be offering short gallery talks on aspects of the ice trade.
