In November 1914, the great French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) gave 18 of his sculptures to the V&A in honour of the British soldiers fighting alongside their French allies in World War One.
This symposium will re-examine the context of the gift and Rodin’s wider impact on the development of sculpture in Britain.
Speakers will include Alicia Robinson, Senior Curator of Sculpture at the V&A, Robert Bowman, collector and Director of Bowman Sculpture and a panel of leading academics, sculptors and art critics.
With support from the Bowman Sculpture Gallery.
