Canals in Wartime

Illustrated Talk: Canals in Wartime, by Dr. Wendy Freer. Wendy outlines the way in which the canals functioned during wartime and how they aided the 'war effort' even though some of the skilled staff were called up. The canals themselves were not immune from war damage, but were quickly reopened to provide the essential arteries of trade. The talk offers a valuable insight into an era about which little is published. Followed by question an answer session.
