Yorkshire Volunteers Brass Christmas Concert

The performance will include a mix of Christmas, and First World War music plus songs from the shows and movies in the stunning surroundings of the Medieval Hall situated in the heart of historic York. This one off concert will have added significance as during Christmas 1914, the Hall was used as a billet for the Leeds Rifles 1/7th West Yorkshire Regiment. Many of those quartered at the Hall were members of the Regimental Band, the predecessors of the current Yorkshire Volunteers brass band. The young men of “Kitchener’s Army” as they were known would stay at the Hall until the spring of 1915 before moving to the Front and taking part in some of the most notorious battles of the war including the Somme. The concert will be an uplifting celebration of the people who celebrated Christmas at the Hall 100 years ago and the Hall’s small role in a global conflict.
