Singing from the Tower (weather permitting)

Once a year the Choir of Durham Cathedral climbs the Cathedral Tower, straight after Evensong on a Saturday evening, and sings forth. The earliest record of such an occasion is 1633. Some believe the tradition started earlier. The legend goes that during the battle of Neville’s Cross in 1346, the Durham monastic community climbed the tower to watch and sang the Te Deum whilst doing so.
