Solemn Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes, 5 March, 5:15pm On the first day of Lent, as we look towards Good Friday six weeks later, ashes are traced on our foreheads to remind us that we are invited to walk with Christ in the way of the Cross •Lent Meditations followed by Compline, 6,13,20 March, 3, 10 April, 8:30pm Simple reflective addresses in the stillness of the Minster, complemented by the singing of beautiful music in a short service marking the end of the day •Procession with Palms and Eucharist, 13 April, 10am A procession from the Mansion House to the Minster enacts Jesus’ acclamation as King by the people on entering Jerusalem, followed in the Minster by hearing of his suffering and death on a cross •Daily Choral Evensong during Holy week, 5:15pm The Minster’s world-renowned Choir sings music to complement readings and prayers enabling us to enter into the events of Jesus’ last days on earth •Chrism Eucharist, 17 April, 11am The clergy and lay ministers of the Diocese renew their commitment to serve Christ, and oils are blessed for the anointing (chrismation) of the sick and dying and of those who commit themselves to Christ •Eucharist of the Last Supper, 17 April, 7pm The events of the night before Jesus died are enacted, particularly the ritual washing of feet as a sign of humility, and keeping watch with Christ as he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane •The Liturgy of Good Friday, 18 April, 10am On the day that Jesus died a large wooden cross is the focus of our contemplation of the generous love of God made known in Christ’s giving of his life for the world •Outdoor Baptisms, 19 April, 2:30pm The Archbishop presides over an ecumenical service in which Christians of a variety of traditions bring to be baptised in water those who wish to commit themselves to Christ •Easter Vigil, Baptism and Confirmation, 19 April, 8:30pm A powerful service in which the resurrection of Christ from the dead is celebrated with the Easter Candle being brought into a darkened Minster and candidates are baptised and confirmed in the Crypt by the Archbishop •Solemn Eucharist 10am, Matins 11:30am, Evensong 4pm, 20 April Services of joy, colour, movement, music and splendour celebrate the resurrection of Christ from the dead and begin the 50 days of Easter
